GWA for Others

Georgetown University’s value of “People for Others” can be seen through the many opportunities for community-based learning courses; our local, national and international service projects; justice immersion programs; and over forty student-led service and justice organizations. You can learn more about Service at Georgetown by visiting the Center for Social Justice’s website.

GWA lives out this value is by amplifying local organizations that focus on improving and sustaining the lives of women and gender minorities. We are especially energized by organizations that focus on educational and economic empowerment, social justice, and professional development in the DC-MD-VA region.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic and keeping our community safe, we have opted to prioritize hands-free and virtual service opportunities starting in 2020.

Suited for Change Professional Clothing Drive (2022)

GWA supports “Suited for Change” a local not-for-profit organization that equips women in need in our community on their path to financial independence by providing them with professional attire, coaching, and skills training. Donate your professional attire by dropping off new, like-new, or lightly used clothing, shoes, and handbags.

DC Ward 2 Mutual Aid: Winter Clothing Drive (2021)

GWA’s Ward 2 Mutual Aid (new window) winter supply drive asks members of our Georgetown community to join us in purchasing or donating supplies from W2MA’s wish list, including sleeping bags, blankets, and coats. These items have all been requested from our unhoused neighbors around Ward 2, and purchasing them is a way to stand in solidarity with members of our community who are living in encampments.

Two ways to give:

  1. WISH LIST (online): Click here (new window) and purchase an item to be delivered to the HR office at Georgetown — we’ll inventory and transport all materials to Ward 2 Mutual Aid throughout December, which will be distributed immediately to folks who have requested them.
  2. DROP OFF (in person): Drop off items at boxes in VCW (Village C West),  Ryan/Hawkinson, Car Barn, and the Women’s Center (327 Leavey), and Hariri Suite 211, throughout the months of November and December. Click here (new window) to see what sorts of items are needed. New or like-new items only please!

*You may also donate to W2MA at any time of the year.

Ward 2 Mutual Aid (new window) works in partnership with People for Fairness Coalition (new window), a group of Washingtonians with lived experience of homelessness leading the fight for housing justice in DC. If you’re interested in learning more about how we can advocate for more just and affordable housing, please check out the work of Serve Your City (new window), the Way Home Campaign (new window), and the Cancel Rent Coalition (new window)
